چکیده

© 2007 Association médicale canadienne T surgeon’s knot is a well-established knot in surgical practice, known to provide unsurpassed grip and security for the tissue tied. It is particularly useful with slippery monofilament suture materials. Traditional tying of the surgeon’s knot involves a cumbersome technique of repeating throws to complete the double loops of each hitch. We describe a 2-handed singlethrow technique, which produces the 2 loops of each throw simultaneously. In tying an ambidextrous surgeon’s knot, the surgeon must be able to perform an “index finger” and “middle finger” throw with both the right and left hands independently, thus resulting in a much simpler and elegant set of movements. We do not claim that this technique is unique to us, but we hope to popularize it through this article.

Intracorporeal knot-tying for the thoracoscopic surgeon: a novel and simplified technique.

Thoracoscopic surgery has usually been limited by 2-dimensional vision and the limited space between ribs--problems that have been only partially overcome by the use of robotics. One of the technical challenges of any minimally invasive surgical approach is tying an intracorporeal knot. For the thoracoscopic surgeon, we describe an easier technique of knot-tying that involves using a right-angl...

Initial loop and knot security of arthroscopic knots using high-strength sutures.

PURPOSE There are many options for arthroscopic knots including the type of knot and suture material used. The current investigation evaluated knot properties using 3 high-strength suture materials tied in 5 common arthroscopic knot configurations. METHODS Four arthroscopic sliding knots including the Roeder, Weston, SMC, and Tennessee Slider and an arthroscopic nonsliding Surgeon's knot were...

Prevention of knot slippage with the use of cyanoacrylate glue: a mechanical study.

PURPOSE To assess the effect of cyanoacrylate glue on knot slippage and strength in vitro. METHODS Ethibond 3/0 was tested using a tensile tester. A single drop of cyanoacrylate glue was applied to the knots. Seven knot configurations (10 samples each) were tested: (1) a surgeon's knot (S) plus 4 square throws (+4) without glue (control group), (2) S plus one square throw (+1) without glue, (...

Parallel alternating sliding knots are effective for ligation of mesenteric arteries during resection and anastomosis of the equine jejunum

BACKGROUND In literature only one article describes and compares methods of achieving hemostasis in equine mesenteric arteries during jejunal resection and anastomosis, and most textbooks favor ligating-dividing mechanical devices. The latter method cannot always be used, not least because the devices are expensive and in some cases even contra-indicated. Various types of knots, including slidi...

Scissor-Knot-Pusher: An Instrument for Simplified Laparoscopic Extracorporeal Knotting

This paper describes the "scissor-knot-pusher," an instrument that greatly facilitates the execution of knot tying during laparoscopic operations. The instrument acts in essence as an extension of the surgeon's hand and, given its rigid structure, allows the surgeon full control of the process of knot tying. Additionally, after the knot has been tightened, it is possible to cut the suture witho...
